DOT & NON-DOT DRUG TESTING
Companies demand pre-employment drug testing of new hires just before the start of a position to check for illegal substances. Pre-employment drug testing is a tactic used by employers to filter out drug users by either discouraging them from applying in the initially or detecting them right before they start working for the business. Essentially requiring this test communicates clearly the company's values and what qualities they will and will not accept in job applicants.
The 40-part regulation compels all businesses that are concerned about employee safety to perform drug and alcohol testing. All VEPS lab collectors are trained in accordance with DOT standards and protocols to ensure that you and your workers receive trustworthy and accurate data.
DOT DRUG TESTING
Testing for all agencies under the Department of Transportation:
FMCSA
FAA
FTA
PHMSA
USCG
The United States Department of Transportation ("DOT") sets drug and alcohol testing standards. DOT defines the requirements for compliance with this collection of rules for employers of workers who are concerned about safety. To keep compliance, companies in the transportation industry must administer DOT drug tests to prospective employees, participate in random drug testing consortiums or pools, and complete supervisor training. DOT conducts random and scheduled audits to ensure that companies follow these testing regulations and maintain accurate records.
NON-DOT DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING
Although the majority of non-DOT employees are exempt from federal drug and alcohol testing regulations and are not needed to hold a CDL driver's license, the safety-sensitive nature of any employee job requiring driving suggests that random drug and alcohol testing may be necessary. Similar to pre-employment testing, non-DOT companies should perform random testing after consulting their state's regulations on employee drug and alcohol testing. Non-DOT employers can use DOT best practices to guarantee each employee has an equal chance of being chosen when performing random drug and alcohol testing if state laws allow it in your business.
Oral Drug Testing
Saliva tests are increasingly being utilized as an alternative to urine drug testing. They are less difficult to administrate. The samples are almost hard to tamper with since they are gathered in full view of the person giving the test.
